Product Description

Homeopathic remedies have been safely and effectively used for over 200 years. In fact, homeopathy is the second most widely used health care system in the world (herbal medicine being first). Homeopathic remedies are safe and effective and can be used by groups that often have difficulty taking other medications, including infants, pregnant women, and - of particular interest to friends of VPO - animals.

The information on the remedy label (in the case of thuja, “warts”) represents a common symptom that is just a tiny part of the complete symptom picture associated with the particular remedy. Correct homeopathic prescribing is achieved only after looking at the totality of symptoms presented (physical, mental, emotional) as well as the materia medica – reference books that contain the records of all symptoms produced by the individual remedies during the proving process. We highly recommend finding and working with a homeopathic veterinarian if you are interested in seeing how this gentle, effective medicine can be of benefit to your animal(s). Use the link to visit the home page of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association, where general information on this topic can be found, as well as a listing of veterinary practitioners. (Don’t worry if there is not a homeopathic vet geographically close to you; long distance treatment by phone works extremely well.) Further information on homeopathy can be obtained through the National Center for Homeopathy.

2 dram bottle; choose 30C or 200C potency. [Wondering what a dram is? A dram is an apothecary unit of measurement. One dram is equal to 1/8 oz. These single remedies are 2 dram size bottles, or 1/4 oz.]

More about homeopathy:

Homeopathy (from the Greek homeo, meaning similar, and pathos, meaning disease or suffering) is based on the principle “like cures like.” In practice, this simply means that the homeopathic remedy selected to treat particular symptoms would be the remedy made from minute amounts of a substance that would give those symptoms to a healthy individual. For example, a person suffering with a cold, whose symptoms included burning, copiously watering eyes and a runny nose, might find it beneficial to take the homeopathic remedy allium cepa, which is made from red onion. By contrast, allopathic medicine (from the Greek allos, meaning other or different) might treat such symptoms with a substance that produces the opposite effect from the symptom being experienced – in the above case, an antihistamine for its drying effect, for example.

Homeopathic remedies are made from all sorts of plant, animal and mineral substances. The original base substance is soaked for a long time to produce a “mother tincture” that becomes the base from which remedies of different potencies (strengths) are made. Between every dilution stage (homeopathic remedies are incredibly dilute), the remedies are “potentized” by being succussed (shaken vigorously). It is not known for certain what this potentization does to the remedies, but what is known is that without potentization along with successive dilution, the remedies are not active.

Just how dilute are the remedies? Remedies labeled as “X” (decimal) potencies (6X, 12X, etc.) are based on 1 part solution to 9 parts alcohol or water (10 parts in all); “C”, or centesimal, potencies are based on 1 part solution to 99 parts alcohol or water (100 parts in all). One part of the mother tincture to 99 parts alcohol or water results in a 1C potency (assuming potentization has occurred). If you then take one part of that 1C solution to 99 parts alcohol or water, and succuss it, you have a 2C potency. Taking one part of that 2C solution to 99 parts alcohol or water, then potentizing it, yields a potency of 3C, and so on. Clearly, the amount of the original substance contained in most homeopathic remedies is infinitesimally small.

Our homeopathic remedies provider, Washington Homeopathic Products, was founded in 1873, a time when 20% of all medical doctors in the U.S. practiced homeopathy. Washington Homeopathic Products is the nation's oldest full line manufacturer of homeopathic products.
